Pawfect pumpkin pie! A dog friendly pumpkin recipe your dog will love

As the air turns crisp, leaves begin to fall and pumpkins pop up on every doorstep, it’s clear that autumn has arrived. With Halloween just around the corner, many of us look forward to the cosy traditions, festive treats and of course, pumpkin everything! But why should the humans have all the fun?! This season, you can share the flavours of autumn with your four-legged friends by baking them a wholesome, dog friendly pumpkin pie. Packed with ingredients that are super nutritious and beneficial for your dog’s health. Enjoy making your pup this guilt free, no nasties pumpkin pie. They will love it!

Ingredients

For the crust:

140 grams oat flour

5g dehydrated bone broth (We use Boil and broth due to their bone broth being 100% natural with nothing else added)
1 Large egg

60 ml Olive oil

For the Filling:

1 Can of 100% natural pumpkin puree (15oz)

2 Large eggs

60ml Goat milk

1 tbsp Honey

25g Oat flour

5g dehydrated bone broth

For the cream and toppings:

1 can of creamed coconut

25g Oat flour

Your pups’ favourite toppings- We used Freeze Dried Pumpkin – Plant Dog, Quail egg yolks and dehydrated pumpkin pieces. This is fully customisable to your dog’s preferences!

Method:

1)   Preheat the oven to 190C (375F)

2)    In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the oat flour and bone broth and keep to one side. These are your dry ingredients.

3) In another mixing bowl, whisk together 60ml of olive oil with 1 large egg. This is your wet ingredients.

4)  Combine your wet and dry ingredients together and form a dough. Put your dough into a pie plate and ensure it is evenly distributed and covers the whole pie plate.

5) Now we will be making the filling! In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, eggs, milk and honey. Once combined, whisk in the oat flour and 5g of dehydrated bone broth until smooth.

6)   Pour the filling into the pie crust and bake for approximately 40 minutes. If you are unsure weather your pie is done, you can stick a knife or skewer in the middle of it, if its mostly clean it is ready to come out the oven. Please be careful not to burn yourself!

7) Once cooked, remove pie from the oven and leave to completely cool before attempting to ice it and decorate it.

8) To make your icing, slowly add your oat flour to your creamed coconut and whisk until it forms a fluffy, buttercream type consistency. Once mixed I highly advise that you pop this in the fridge for 30 minutes prior to adding to your pumpkin pie.

9)  Once your icing is ready and chilled, add to piping bag and pipe onto the top of the pumpkin pie. Add your toppings and serve a appropriate sized serving to your dogs!
